South East Asian Operations:
1966 -1972
|
 |
The 306th Bomb Wing supported conventional bombing operations in South
East Asia from October, 1966 through December, 1972. They initially deployed to Guam and
Okinawa to support Arc Light (bomber) and Young Tiger (Tanker) operations in 1966.
Frequent deployments to South East Asia continued over the following five years as the
theatre of operations expanded to also include bomber operations from Okinawa and
Thailand. The 306th continued to support the nuclear deterrence mission, while at home
between deployments. The 306th was a major factor in Line Backer I operations to disrupt
North Viet Nams' re-supply of South Viet Nam in the summer of 1972 and, finally, Line
Backer II operations over Hanoi and Haiphong in December, 1972.
