The 306th Bombardment Wing (heavy), McCoy AFB, Florida had its origin in the 306th
Bombardment Group, of World War II fame. Also the 367th Bombardment Squadron, McCoy
AFB was a subordinate unit of the 306th Bombardment Group (along with the 368th,
369th and 423rd Bombardment Squadrons). The 306th was the first to attack targets in
Germany and was instrumental to the success of the European Air Campaign.

Heaviest losses in VIII Bombardment Campaign between Oct 42
and Aug 43.
Flew 395 Combat missions in WW II (some with the 99th Bomb Wing).
Two Distinguished Unit Citations and 10 Battle Credits for action against 11 countries on
2 continents.
